First Grade Art

The first grade finished their Koala pictures the week after their Australian Unit was completed. Those snow days really throw our schedule off. They created multimedia pictures with permanent markers, water soluble markers, and, felt and construction papers. Their pictures are delightful and will be on display next month at the K-8 Art Fair. Currently they are working on clown portraits. We mapped the clown faces drawing the eyes, nose, and mouth in the correct size and place before adding the "make up".

Third Grade Art

The third grade just completed Teddy Bears in a seasonal environment. Each student had their own teddy bear to pose and draw from observation. Before drawing everyone must decide where their bear will be, what it is doing, what clothes or accessories it might need, and what season it will show. Pictures were drawn with water soluble markers and then were painted with watercolors. Students had to use the utmost care and control with their water colors so as to not wash away their drawings.

Second Grade Art

Second Grade flowers, inspired by the art work of Georgia O'Keeffe, are currently displayed in the common area outside of their room. O'Keeffe became famous for painting magnified close ups of flowers.  Students cut large flower shapes from white drawing paper and used self cut stencils and pastels to create their own versions of this art form.

Kindergarten Art

After finishing an African art unit featuring King Tut and Masks, the kindergarten started a paper strip landscape. Skills involved in this project include cutting lines to represent different types of terrain for foreground, middle ground and background, gluing strips down starting at the top of the paper and overlapping to the bottom, and creating a scene from cut papers tucked into the layers of background. Cities, forests, oceans, and even some inside environments have been created by these really talented students.
